There are opportunities that offer drivers short trips, keeping them out for a week and then coming home, and even jobs that allow them to be home every night, but many of these positions are filled by drivers that have been driving a long time and have exemplary driving records. 

Companies looking to fill CDL truck driver positions for local routes often include construction companies, delivery companies, mail contractors, and retail store chains. Usually, the driver will run the same route to the drop-offs every day and deliver the same kinds of freight at each stop. The hours will mean the driver can get home every night or every other night in some cases, and depending on the company, the benefits and pay for these kinds of jobs are often very good.
